In June 2023, Jim Sterk became Western Washington University’s seventh director of athletics in the 109 years the university has been open. He rejoined the community to work with student-athletes who are where he once was at Western.
Western Washington University’s women’s soccer team placed second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Ellensburg. The team has appeared in the GNAC final game for the last 11 years.
Western Washington University’s cross-country team placed first in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship on Oct. 21, 2023. The Vikings have won three of the four most recent GNAC championships, coming in as defending champions this year, favored to win.
Western Washington University’s Devyn Oestreich was the only underclassman to be selected from Western’s volleyball team for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team.
Western Washington University hosted its first and only home event of the season with the Women’s Golf Invitational taking place Oct. 9-10. Western finished in second place with Dani Bailey leading the way for the team.
