Women's golf places 3rd in home match

Western women’s golf team took third place at the Western Washington Invitational Tournament, Tuesday Oct. 13, at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Twelve teams attended the invitational. Western was beat by Northeastern State University (first) and Saint Martin’s University (second). “We know we could have played better so we are a tad disappointed in how it ended up, but we are a little pleased with how we did,” junior Audrey Orem said. Orem was tied for 16th at 156 (77), according to Western Athletics. Sophomore Jenn Paul had the best score for Western in the final round, shooting 2-under-par 71. She finished even at par 146, which put her one shot behind first place and tied her for second, according to Western Athletics. “We have been fine-tuning every aspect of our game to get ready for our home course and hosting [the next invitational],” Orem said. Their fine-tuning paid off. Junior Brooke Branigan tied for 12th place, shooting 75 for the final round finishing at 9-over 155. “I scored well but there were a few shots I left out there which was a little frustrating,” Branigan said. The Vikings will compete at Sonoma State University on Monday, Oct. 19 and Tuesday, Oct. 20 for their final invitational of the fall season. “We are looking forward to next week and performing even better,” Orem said.
