Right after high school graduation, Mocki Serey was excited to attend Western as a freshman. With 20 cents in his wallet, Serey was depending on financial aid to help pay for the cost of attendance and housing.

Timothy Ballew II was appointed as the new member of the Whatcom County Council on Jan. 16, filling a spot recently left absent due to district realignment. Ballew previously served as Tribal Chairman for Lummi Nation for five years.

The Stop The Sweeps campout, taking place in front of Bellingham City Hall between Dec. 1 and Dec. 4, is part of a larger national movement focused on treating the homeless with dignity. Sweeps, as they’re called, are the traditional method of addressing homelessness with forced evictions of homeless camps. The idea of this movement is to end sweeps, and create more stability in the lives of homeless.
When Paul Hanson and Kelly Evert got married on the Fairhaven Village Green, they bought everything local. Rings, flowers, you name it. Now, as co-owners of Village Books, they’re working to keep that tradition going.
Several places in Bellingham open their doors to share a meal during the holiday season. The Lighthouse Mission Ministries has been hosting a Turkey Dinner on the day after Thanksgiving for 94 years.
