Compiled by Simon Thomas Women’s Soccer The women’s soccer team ended their season after losing to University of California, San Diego in the NCAA Division II West Region Final on Friday, Nov. 16. The teams were scoreless at full time, and two halves of extra time was still not enough to split the two sides. The game finally went to a penalty shoot out, which the Vikings lost 4-1. Redshirt sophomore Natalie Dierickx made three saves to secure the 110 minute clean sheet. The Vikings end their season with a 18-3-2 record.

Women’s Basketball The women’s basketball team competed in the Sodexo Tip-off Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific University. Sophomores Kelsey Rogers and Emma Duff both achieved a career high in points during the opening game, with Rogers scoring 10 points in the opening quarter and 12 of her 16 shots throughout the entire game on Friday, Nov 16. UC San Diego won 79-72 though, having the stronger second half after both teams scored 35 points in the first two quarters. Duff also led the game with nine rebounds, a team-high. The team had more success in their second game of the tournament, being the first team to beat Azusa Pacific University this season on Saturday, Nov. 17. In a game that was tied 11 times, Azusa Pacific managed to extend the game into extra time by scoring with only four seconds left on the clock. The overtime period seemed to be ending 74-74 before junior guard Lexi Bland successfully attempted a three-pointer at the buzzer, winning the game.

Their next game will be against University of Mary at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23 in the Sam Carver Gymnasium. Men’s Basketball The men’s basketball team competed in the Simon Fraser University Showdown and won both games. The team took on Minnesota State University, Moorhead on Nov. 16, where junior Trevor Jasinsky, senior Tyler Payne and sophomore Luke Lovelady all scoring in the double figures to secure an 80-76 win. Jasinsky recorded a team-high with 21 points, while both Payne and Lovelady achieved career-highs of 18 point games. The Vikings managed a comeback during their second game of the tournament, beating Humboldt State 81-76. The team trailed 42-32 at halftime, but juniors Micah Winn and Jasinsky’s strong games helped the Vikings pull through, scoring 22 points and 21 points respectively. Jasinsky has scored over 20 points in his past four games. Their next game will be against Capilano University at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, in the Sam Carver Gymnasium. Women’s Volleyball The women’s volleyball team recorded a 3-0 sweep over California State University, East Bay in the NCAA Division II Volleyball West Regional quarterfinal being their first home postseason match in Carver Gym on Thursday, Nov. 15. The team had to come back from falling behind in both the first and second set but succeeded with the help of senior Abby Phelps who produced 14 kills and 21 digs during the match. The team went on to sweep No. 4 seed California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in the semifinal on Friday, Nov. 16. Junior Kayleigh Harper led the team with 6 blocks, and Phelps and Harper both produced 13 kills to help secure the victory.

The NCAA Division II Volleyball West Regional championship was held in Carver Gym for the first time on Saturday, Nov. 17, where the Vikings beat the No. 1 ranked Colorado State University, San Bernardino. The five-set match was the third time the two schools have met in the final. Phelps made 22 kills, while Harper made 26 with the help of senior Brette Boesel who produced 65 assists. The team’s next match is the NCAA Division II National quarterfinal on Nov. 29 at 11:30 p.m. PT against Tarleton State in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Cross Country Both the women’s and men’s team placed 5th at the NCAA West Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 17 qualifying them to compete at the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Cross Country championship in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Dec. 1. Senior Jadon Olson finished No. 20 in the men’s competition, while sophomore Jane Barr finished No. 24 for the women.
