Fairhaven trick-or-treaters will have no problem finding their way to candy on Halloween with a path of lit jack-o’-lanterns leading them to Larrabee Avenue. Stone’s Throw Brewery, a local pub in downtown Fairhaven, will be showcasing a display of 35 jack-o’-lanterns outside of their business on Halloween that have been personally carved by community members. The free communal pumpkin carving started on Oct. 21, and will continue until 3 p.m. on Oct. 31, which is when Stone’s Throw Brewery will begin setting up their presentation. However, patrons will not be able to carve pumpkins on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26, when the pub will be closed. Community members let their artistic talents shine by carving creative and original designs. Peter Wiegand joined in on the pub’s festivities and decided to carve the Stone’s Throw Brewery logo on his pumpkin. “I think that having an event on Halloween that’s not just taking kids trick-or-treating, but showing people’s creativity, and having all of the pumpkins in one spot is definitely a boost for the community’s [Halloween] spirit,” Wiegand said.

The pub has placed several pumpkins around their property available for anyone to pick out during store hours, which they can carve at a carving table supplied with carving tools and stencils. Upon completion, participants are given a candle, and are able to choose where they want to illuminate their jack-o’-lantern until Halloween, when it’s put on display. If people are over 21, they are welcome to purchase a beer while carving their pumpkin, but you don’t have to be a customer to be able to make a jack-o’-lantern. The brewery is also collecting all of the pumpkin seeds to roast and serve as a complimentary snack. Stone’s Throw Brewery opened last April, and this is the first year they have had a pumpkin display. Tony Luciano, owner of Stone’s Throw Brewery, has always enjoyed the fall and created the pumpkin display event as a means to bring awareness to their neighborhood pub, while using Halloween as a way to encouraging community participation and togetherness. “Getting people engaging each other to do something fun is important for communities,” Luciano said. “To have a jack-o’-lantern sitting there that you or your neighbor carved, and being able to point it out and talk about it is pretty exciting. It’s fun, lighthearted, and festive.”
