WHAT'S WESTERN WEARING: SARAH WATSON

Freshman Sarah Watson, psychology major

Q: Where do you get your fashion inspiration from? A: It’s usually people I see. Most of it comes from how I’m feeling and a lot of what I wear comes from a place of self-expression. I like what’s comfortable and expresses who I am without it just being a sweatshirt.

Q: How has your style changed over time? A: It definitely has gotten better. Once I found out that I love to thrift shop, I found myself finally succeeding in finding things that I love to wear. Over time I just attained more money to be able to buy better clothes that I like.  Q: What motivates you to put time into your look? A: It’s kind of like art. I think of it like how I do art projects. Say, for example, there’s a specific kind of dress that I want to wear and I need to find that dress somewhere so I’m like really motivated and put in a lot of thought into what I want to create a look. Every morning I usually just sit there and look at the closet and think 'Okay, this is going to go with this and if it doesn’t work, it’s going to work anyway.' If there’s a certain thing that I want to add to my collection, there will be a few weeks before I can actually find it. I actually put a lot of thought into it.

Q: Where do you like to shop normally? A: The Buffalo Exchange, Goodwill and Value Village. There was a really good Value Village on Capitol Hill that I would go to all the time for shirts that have really funny sayings on them. I definitely enjoy second-hand [clothing] because it’s worn in, it looks how it’s supposed to, you don’t need to break it in and it’s also got history behind it.
