Women's Rowing
The women’s rowing team traveled to Redwood City, California on Saturday, May 11 to compete against Stanford Lightweights and Central Oklahoma. The women’s rowing team completed the 2,000-meter course in 6:55.7 minutes, beating Central Oklahoma by three seconds. Vikings will now wait to see if they are one of the six teams to qualify for the NCAA Rowing Championships held in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 31-June 2. The results will be announced Monday, May 20 at 2 p.m. on the NCAA's website.
Men’s Soccer
The men’s soccer team traveled to Orca Field to play against Whatcom Community College on Wednesday, May 8. The last away game lead the Vikings to tie the game 1-1 against Whatcom Community College.
The Vikings then hosted the Sounders U-23 for their last home game Saturday afternoon, Saturday, May 11 on home turf at Robert S. Harrington Field. The team ended the season with their heads held high and hearts going out strong, beating the Sounders U-23, 3-1. The 2019 fall soccer season will start back up with a game on September 5 against California State University, Chico at Harrington Field.
Men’s Golf
The men’s golf team traveled to St. George, Utah May 9-11 for the Northwest Collegiate Athletic Association Division II West/Central Regionals. Western’s team went into the tournament ranked the No. 2 seed. On Thursday, May 9, the team finished ninth place out 20, with fourth-year Cody Roth leading the team with an even-par 72 in the opening round. On Friday, May 10, the team headed in with high hopes of getting into the top four teams to advance to nationals. The team fell into 16th place with an 8-over-par 296 team score. Fourth-year Nick Sparling led the team at 2-over-par 218, to tie for 38th place. The team went out with heads held high as they closed their 2018-19 season.
This was the golf team’s 21st consecutive season competing in the NCAA Division II Regional Golf Championships.
Track & Field
The men’s and women’s track & field teams traveled to Monmouth, Oregon at Western Oregon University and competed at McArthur Field Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships. Second-year Seren Dances highlighted the first day of competition winning the men’s long jump with a 7.20-meter score. By the end of the second day, the men's track & field team won first place in the program’s seventh title, scoring 173 points. Third-year Cordell Cummings won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.91 seconds, and the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.77, breaking his personal record to win the Men’s Track Athlete of the Meet Award.
The women’s track & field team placed fifth overall with a score of 95 points for the tournament. Third-year Hannah Bradley finished second in the women’s 200-meter dash final with a time of 24.81 seconds, and fourth-year Savannah Smith finished third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.10, both being third fastest in Western’s history in their categories
