Good news. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for the romantically inclined or those with astonishing good looks and charisma. Who knew?

Galentine’s Day, celebrated the day before Valentine’s Day, Feb. 13, is exclusively designed to celebrate the best females in your life. Originally coined by “Parks and Recreation’s” very own Leslie Knope, portrayed by Amy Poehler, this holiday is perfect for those not tied down to a romantic partner.

You might despise Valentine’s Day wholeheartedly because it reminds you that you’re alone. But guess what, you’re not. Just look around at the amazing women in your life, whether it be your mother, your co-workers, classmates, cousins, sisters or soul sisters.

They are just as important as the guys in your life, if not more. The great thing about Galentine’s Day is that you can celebrate Valentine’s Day too. Since they are on separate days you don’t have to worry about committing to just one.

So here are my best tips and tricks for having the best Galentine’s Day experience ever.

Step 1: Decide who you are going to celebrate. Narrow down your list to your closest girlfriends and make handmade valentine’s cards for each of them. Nothing too fancy, just a cute card made of pink or red cardstock with a few words about how much they mean to you. You could whip this out in less than 30 minutes.

Step 2: Either mail the cards a few days prior to make sure they arrive on time, or hand them out in person on G-Day.

Step 3: Plan a Galentine’s Day get together/party! Send invites to your best gals over email or Facebook event for a night of games, food and fun.

Step 4: You can buy adorable Galentine’s Day Decorations at any grocery store or Target. You can also save money by making them at home. Cut out some pink and red hearts and string them together to make a cute and simple “Galentine’s Day” banner. You can also make heart-shaped drink markers so no one loses their drink halfway through the party.

Step 5: Serve your guests sparkling Galentine’s Day punch, made with pink lemonade, sprite and strawberry ice cream, heart shaped finger sandwiches, and some stovetop popcorn drizzled with pink and red icing and sweetheart candies. Yum.

Step 6: Set up a DIY Photo Booth/Photo Op area! Hang a glittery pink curtain on a blank wall and set pink and red balloon arrangements on either side to add some pizzazz.

Now you have all the tools necessary for the best Galentine’s Day ever, with the gals who mean the most to you! Don’t forget to treat yo’self to a relaxing bubble bath and a glass of rose after your guests leave. After spoiling your gal pals all day, you deserve some special treatment too!

Happy decorating, party planning and cookie decorating! And have a fabulous Galentine’s Day.
