April Brews Day to raise money for Max Higbee Center

The Max Higbee Center will hold the beer-tasting event called April Brews Day on Saturday, April 25. In the event, you can taste a variety of beers from breweries, which support the event, including a local brewery, Boundary Bay Brewery. In total, more than 50 breweries are confirmed to support the event. April Brews Day is a fundraiser event for the Max Higbee Center, which provides community-based recreation programs for youth and adults, 14 or older, with developmental disabilities. Kait Whiteside, executive director of the Max Higbee Center, said the money collected from ticket sales funds approximately 45 percent of Max Higbee Center’s annual operations. Admission includes a collectable tasting glass and scrip for tasting these great micro-brews. Local music by various bands, as well as food, will be available for purchase from Bellingham's finest food trucks, according to the Max Higbee Center website. Although you have to be 21 years old or older in order to join the event, the Max Higbee Center has also created another event called Brew’s Day Brunch for people of all ages on Sunday, April 26, at Boundary Bay Brewery from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Max Higbee Center is still looking for more volunteers in order to run the event and direct the funds from the event straight toward their programs. “We rely on Western to provide us with the most of our volunteers,” Whiteside said. “I’m so grateful for all of the Western students who come out for this event.” All volunteers will get a tasting cup with two tasting ticket for free. Sign ups can be found on the Max Higbee Center website: http://www.maxhigbee.org/volunteer-registration-2015.html
