Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies will offer a major next year

The Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies program will offer a major, a new minor and additional courses to students next year. Currently, the program offers only a minor or support for students who want to pursue a student and faculty-designed major with a focus on women, gender or sexuality. The program's proposals to expand were passed through the Academic Coordinating Commission this week, according to an email sent by program director Vicki Hsueh on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Here is more information on the new offerings from the email:

New WGSS major (60 credits)
-Choose 2 from:
  • WGSS 211: Introduction to Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (5
  • credits)
  • WGSS 212: Introduction to Feminist Theory (5 credits)
  • WGSS 213: Introduction to Queer and Sexuality Studies (5 credits)
-WGSS 350: Methods (or other approved methods course under advisement)
(5 credits)
-20 credits of 300- and 400-level coursework within WGSS rubric
-20 credits of electives from any program under advisement (up to 10
credits at the 200-level)
-WGSS 450: Capstone Seminar (5 credits) (or other approved senior-level
capstone seminar under advisement)
New WGSS minor (25 credits)
-Choose 2 from:
  • WGSS 211: Introduction to Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (5
  • credits)
  • WGSS 212: Introduction to Feminist Theory (5 credits)
  • WGSS 213: Introduction to Queer and Sexuality Studies (5 credits)
-WGSS 350: Methods (or other approved methods course under advisement)

-10 credits of 300- or 400-level coursework within WGSS rubric (electives
from any program may be used under advisement)
