Michael Dees is a 21-year-old sophomore from Federal Way, Wash. with an interest in marketing.Q: Why did you pick Western?A: It was the only school I applied to. [I’d] never seen the campus in my life. I like it, so it worked out somehow. Q: What is your favorite thing about Western?A: It’s probably the ease of getting to know people. Everyone seems really friendly up here. Q: What has your favorite class been so far?
A: History 278, multiculturalism of Canada. Just because Canada has a really racist history and a lot of people don’t know that.
Q: What do you like to do around Bellingham?A : I like to skateboard. That is my main hobby. Besides that, I like cars a lot. I am building a drift car. Q: What is your best piece of advice for students?A: Don’t be afraid just to talk to people because everyone is new and wants to make friends. Q: What are your goals after you graduate?A : Try to move back to Seattle, get a good job, adopt a Corgi and that’s all I can really see for the future. Q: How do you feel your experiences have helped you with your education?A: I’ve come from a rough family and past, so I guess all of that made me a lot more motivated to get to where I am. Growing up that way, the biggest thing is that I don’t want that for when I have kids. I want to give my future family something better than I had.
