Five Alarm Funk, a Vancouver based band, headlined for the last installment of Downtown Sounds on Wednesday and oh 
my horns! Funk is in the bands name for a reason.
Five Alarm Funk uses a mixture of extremely unique instrumentals to create their musical beats. The band consists of nine musically talented men who all play an instrument. The drums were front and center stage to get the crowd moving. Their music consists mostly of highly upbeat instrumentals including a saxophone player, trombone, trumpet, two guitarists, a drummer and a guy rocking on some congas.
The songs were loud and rocking and instantly got the crowd engaged. Five Alarm Funk mixes so many genres that it is hard to distinguish them apart. They fuse rock, progressive metal, ska and obviously some funk, which makes up this unique band to rock out to.
Baby Cakes, a soul music cover band out of Bellingham, opened for Five Alarm Funk.
The sun was out and it was a perfectly hot day in downtown Bellingham, so people were keeping hydrated as they danced the night away to some intense passionate rhythms.
During intermission in the last day of Downtown Sounds, three talented ladies took the audience’s attention by incorporating hula-hoops into their dance routines. Then they offered anyone in the crowd who wanted to hula-hoop to grab one and try their hand, or their waist at it.
Before the headliner started playing, Levitt AMP Bellingham Music Series employees got on stage to thank everyone for participating in the Downtown Sounds series.
Although Downtown Sounds has ended for this summer series, Bellingham has so much live music to offer in summer. So don’t miss out concert lovers!
Coming to Maritime Heritage Park starting Friday, August 27, Levitt AMP Bellingham presents Music at Maritime which is the newest music park series coming to Bellingham. The series starts at 11:30 a.m. for five Fridays in a row for a day of fun, food and music in the park.
