At the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted at Azusa Pacific University on Wednesday, April 17, second-year decathlete Seren Dances landed himself in third place with 3,632 points in the long jump and the high jump.
First-year Ian Rinefort finished sixth with a final point total of 6,682. Rinefort set personal best marks in the 110-meter hurdles (16.27 seconds), discus (32.30/105-11), pole vault (4.30m/14-1.25) and the 1500-meter (4:19.79). Rinefort has already exceeded his point total of 3,364, which he scored in the University British Columbia Open, totaling 6,303, which is the fifth- best mark in Western history. His point total for the Bryan Clay Invitation will most likely move him up into the top 20 competitors in the nation.
Fourth-year Dylan Hayes set a new personal best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:50.90), and finished 19th out of 105 competitors. This moved Hayes up to third place in the Western all-time outdoor record book.
Third-year Cordell Cummings moved up to second-place in the WWU all-time top 10 in the 110-meter hurdles (14.52) and 400-meter hurdles (51.95).
At the California State University Twilight Open in Eugene, Oregon at Lane Community College, second-year Avery Lux threw 54.90m/10 in the hammer throw, just short of his personal mark of 54.73m/176-9.
At the Mt. Sac Relays at El Camino College in Torrance, California, third-year Sophia Galvez finished 16th after competing in the 10,000-meter relay race, also falling just short of her personal mark of 36:28.86
At the Beach Invitational on Friday, April 19, in Long Beach, California, Galvez finished fifth in the 5,000-meter run. Third-year Jewels Oliquiano finished 11th in pole vault along with third- year Lexi Perry. Perry also took eighth in the triple jump.
Hayes, finished third in the 5,000-meter run. Fourth-year J.T. Konrad finished seventh in the pole vault. Lux finished 53rd in the hammer throw.
First-year Karlington Anunagba finished fifth in the men's 100-meter finals. Second-year Bryant Welch in 23rd. Fourth-year James Jasperson finished 42nd in the 800-meter finals and fourth-year Kyle Sager in 47th.
Softball
The Vikings finished game two of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 1–0 win at Harrington Field on Friday, April 19. Fourth-year first baseman Emily Benson hit a walk off home-run giving the Vikings the lead. This was Benson 45th career home-run.
The Vikings were defeated in a 4–2 loss against Concordia on Saturday, April 20.
Women’s Soccer
A goal from nearly mid field grazed the goalie’s hands and hit the net, securing a Vikings win of 3–0 against Peninsula College on Friday, April 19, at Harrington Field.
Golf
Western Men's Golf finished first place in the GNAC Championship on Tuesday, April 22, at Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Second-year Brody Bonfilio finished first in the top 20, shooting a 67 in the first round and 71 in the second round. With a total of 138, Bonfilio finished four under for the tournament.
Western Women’s Golf finished 31 over, taking second place in the GNAC Championship, third-year Lacy Sheldon finished first in the top 20, shooting 73 in the first round and 73 in the second round for a total of two over.
