AS Election Results

Simrun Chhabra is the new president of Western’s Associated Students. The second place candidate was
Mary Moeller with 674 votes to Chhabra’s 1114. Sterling Rettke came in third with 199 votes. The closest race was VP for Governmental Affairs. Ana Ramirez
defeated Leanna Sauerlender by only 16 votes.  Ramirez is the first woman of color, or undocumented person, to hold the position, she said in an earlier interview with The Western Front. In the other contested races, Hunter Eider and Annie Gordon won the positions of VP for Academic Affairs and VP for Student Life, respectively. The new AS Constitution and AS Transportation Fee Renewal  referendums passed overwhelmingly. The transportation fee renewal referendum had the highest turnout with slightly over 2,000 votes . The presidential election had a turnout of 1,907, around 12 percent of the fall 2016 student body.

Hunter Eider won 953 out of 1,739 total votes.

Julia Rutledge won 1,625 votes and ran unopposed.

Alex Lavallee won 1,700 votes and ran unopposed.
