By: Kristina Rivera To me, a good song cover reworks the original song. The cover should showcase the artist’s own flair and personality. One of my favorites is the Flaming Lips’ cover of the The Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds”. It seems appropriate for psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips to cover one of The Beatles’ most psychedelic-sounding songs. However, The Flaming Lips adds a level of bombastic production that builds into the chorus. Miley Cyrus performs the vocals and is a perfect accompaniment to the cover. If The Flaming Lips isn’t your cup of tea, another one of my favorites is Chet Faker’s cover of Blackstreet’s “No Diggity”. Blackstreet will always perform the song best, but Faker reworked the song to fit his own style. Faker slows down the beat and adds piano elements to better suit his velvety voice. The songs on this playlist may not be as good as the original, but they all showcase the artist’s own unique style.
