Associated Students Productions is gearing up for a series of concerts that have been in the works since early summer. On Friday, Nov. 18, AS Productions hosts the first Sound Block music festival, which features of Big Wild, TOKiMONSTA, Manatee Commune and Ca$h Bandicoot.
AS Productions Assistant Director of Marketing Gollo Moreno is involved in putting on the event.
“We wanted to establish something new and exciting for students,” Moreno said.
The festival will have an electronic sound to it.
Moreno did not want the festival to feature rave-like electronic music but wanted to bring artists that fit Western’s style, he said.
Big Wild is based out of Los Angeles, California. The band has played at several music festivals, including a tour with Odesza, a group of Western alumni, in 2015.
“We have not had a straight sell-out since Macklemore in 2013, but that is our goal for this event."

Artist TOKiMONSTA is a Los Angeles artist. In 2012, she went on tour with Skrillex and Diplo across Canada. Since then, she has performed at festivals like Coachella and South By Southwest, according to her website.
Manatee Commune is from Bellingham. The band recently opened for Glass Animals, who played at festivals like Sasquatch and Coachella. Manatee Commune just released his new album in September.
Ca$h Bandicoot is a producer and DJ from Seattle.
The stage and lighting is going to be different from what is usually used in the Viking Union Multi-Purpose Room. AS Productions is using a production company named Sensebellum, who has done stage setups for shows such as Capitol Hill Block Party, What The Festival and Summer Meltdown, Moreno said.
“The stage is going to be like nothing anyone has ever seen,” Moreno said.
Moreno has high hopes for large attendance for this event.
“We have not had a straight sell-out since Macklemore in 2013, but that is our goal for this event,” he said.
Students can purchase tickets at the Performing Arts Center box office for $15 with Western ID or online for $20, including ordering and processing fees.
