By Alyssa Evans A High Wind Warning has been issued for Whatcom County throughout Friday, Oct. 14, according to a Western Alert. A second storm is expected to occur Saturday, Oct. 15. The warning was originally issued Thursday, Oct. 13 Gusts are expected to be up to 60 mph. Those in the area are encouraged to be cautious while driving and to avoid areas that are flooded, as well as heavily wooded areas. Power outages may occur due to trees falling. Residents should ensure that flashlights have batteries, any electronics have been charged and windows are left closed with blinds drawn. Some DIY ways to prepare for a long power outage include:
- Put water in mason jars, water bottles or any other containers around your house.
- While you have power prepare meals that are good cold or will keep for a while.
- Make sure you have your clothes washed ahead of the big storm, and layer up if your power goes out.
- Stock up on toiletries, such as toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
- Move any outdoor furniture or other objects indoors to prevent them from falling over and being damaged.
- Seal windows with tape or plastic wrap to help heat stay inside.
