String of robberies near campus target Apple laptops

A string of robberies targeting Apple laptops occurred near campus after 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, according to a statement from the Bellingham Police Department. The burglaries took place in the 1000 block of High Street, 900 block of E. Maple St., 100 block of Morey Avenue and the 700 block of N. Garden Street. Three of the four residences were entered through an unlocked door, and the fourth was entered through an unlocked window. BPD suggests to turn Bluetooth off on devices to avoid them being discovered. They also encourage the usage of a password to protect laptops. In addition, BPD asks that residents make sure that their external lights are working, any trees or bushes are trimmed and that all doors and windows are properly locked. Be aware of any suspicious behavior, such as a person lurking near homes for a long period of time. Call 911 or University Police at (360) 650-3911 to report any suspicious activity.
