From the Sidelines: Kevin Durant joins Golden State Warriors

Kevin Durant just decided to play for the Golden State Warriors. This is a huge change for the entire league, as Durant was already a star in Oklahoma City and will be joining the Splash Brothers, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. Was this a wise choice for him, the league and the team?

Elizabeth Cutler: Kevin Durant’s decision to now play for the Golden State Warriors is a wise decision for him personally. It is a wise choice that will hopefully help him grow as a player and improve his career. Him joining the Golden State Warriors will benefit the team; however by Durant leaving the Oklahoma City Team it could result in devastation. For Durant changing teams it could alter the league in dramatic ways.

Ben Olson: Kevin Durant signing with Golden State is great for him, the Warriors and the league. For Durant, he will be going to an already talented team in Golden State that will contend for a title. The Warriors, who lost to Cleveland in the finals, will be adding a star player to help take some of the pressure off of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. The Warriors will become the villains of the NBA, lots of people will want to watch this team play, even if they are rooting against them. It appears that he is transitioning just for the credibility of the Warriors, but regardless it will help him evolve as a player. Assuming the team vibes well, Durant will play a pivotal role among a team of powerhouses.

Jilly Greco: I think this was a good choice. The Warriors now have four of the top players in the NBA, and having a four-person “dream team” is huge. Durant playing alongside Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green will give Golden State an edge above the rest of the league if they can effectively work together like everyone is hoping.
