With warm summer weather right around the corner, smoothies are a perfect choice. Protein, fruit and vegetables can all be found in one tasty on-the-go drink. Enter the smoothie bowl. These are the ingredients I put in my smoothie bowl. A variety of foods can be used to mix and match. Pick a few from the following categories, blend them and enjoy!

Step 1: Chose a liquid base. Some options are:

  • Milk: makes the smoothie thicker
  • Water: make the smoothie thinner
  • Fruit Juice: adds sweetness and makes smoothie more thin
  • Coconut water
Step 2: Add protein.

  • Frozen berries
  • Bananas
  • Pineapples
  • Strawberries
  • Kiwis
  • Apples
  • Mangos
Step 4: Toss in vegetables. Some options are:
  • Spinach
  • Kale
  • Cucumber
  • Broccoli
  • Carrots

Step 5: Add in extras. I used cashews, almonds, chia seeds, flax seeds and an Emergen-C packet. Step 6: Sweeten the smoothie more. I used honey and agave. Step 7: Blend and garnish. The garnishing is the fun part. Use more fruit, granola, nuts and/or seeds. Now you’re an artist with a tasty and healthy summer meal. Enjoy!
