NIGHT IN WITH NETFLIX: FIREFLY

Sophomore Juliet Mammen has been recently binge watching Firefly on Netflix. She found the show through seeing it online and by being encouraged to watch it with her boyfriend. "It's interesting because it's part of 'nerd culture'. It's a really loved show, almost like Star Trek. When it first came out, nobody watched it, but it was rediscovered and it's super popular, but there's only one season of it." Mammen's favorite aspect of the show is watching how characters develop. Her favorite character is Inara Serra. Storyline from IMDB: Captain Malcolm 'Mal' Reynolds is a former galactic war veteran who is the captain of the transport ship "Serenity". Mal and his crew, ensign Zoe Alleyne Washburne; Zoe's husband, pilot Hoban 'Wash' Washburne; muscular mercenary Jayne Cobb; young mechanic Kaylee Frye; former Alliance medical officer Simon Tam; his disturbed teenage sister River (both on the run from the interplanetary government "The Alliance"); the beautiful courtesan Inara Serra; and preacher Shepherd Book do any jobs, legal or illegal, they can find as the Serenity crew travels across the outskirts of outer space. My Review: The show has a Guardians of the Galaxy feel with these humans roaming the universe looking for any way to get by and not get caught by authorities. This crew cares for each other like a family even though they can be pretty nasty to each other sometimes. It may be a part of nerd culture, but is easy for anyone to get interested in. My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Seasons available: 1 Number of episodes: 15 Average length per episode: 44 minutes Genre: Science fiction, drama
