The Front Book Club: An Abundance of Katherines

katherines23-199x300Most people have some sort of a type when looking for someone to be in a relationship with. For Colin Singleton, the main character of An Abundance of Katherines," by John Green, his type is a girl named Katherine. Junior Shelby Munson recommends this novel because of its easy conversational language and not so fairytale ending.  The novel follows Singleton who has gone through several breakups with women named Katherine, she said. [Singleton] is really into math, and he tries to create this formula for if two people started a relationship who would most likely break up with who,Munson said.  The novel was a 2007 Michael L. Printz Honor book as well as a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, according to John Greens website.

Colin heads out on a road trip with his overweight, Judge Judy-loving friend Hassan. With $10,000 in his pocket and a feral hog on his trail, Colin is on a mission to prove a mathematical theorem he hopes will predict the future of any relationship and conceivably win the girl, says the description of the novel. Munson likes this book because it is realistic and includes things that actually happen to people — like backstabbing, said Munson.  She said that her and her friend like to read all of John Greens books and "An Abundance of Katherines" was her favorite of them so far.  Munson confirmed that Singleton does end up with a girl, if it is another Katherine or he finally breaks his trend, only reading the book will be able to tell you.  Green has also written, Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns," and The Fault in our Stars." Several of his books have also been turned into movies.
