One hundred thirty-seven students answered a three-question survey regarding the current U.S. presidential election. About 95 percent of students who participated are registered to vote. Those who plan to register made up 3.6 percent, and 1.5 percent are not registered to vote. The students who weren't registered to vote weren't allowed to vote any further in the survey.  The majority of students – 66 percent – said they would like to see Sen. Bernie Sanders as President of the United States. Coming in second place was Hillary Clinton, with 13 percent of Western students supporting her bid for president. Some students were undecided – about 6 percent; Donald Trump garnered 5 percent of Western students' support. The survey found 4 percent of students wanted Marco Rubio as president and 3 percent wanted John Kasich. The final question asked students which presidential candidate they would vote for if they had to vote for the other party. Students who were unsure which candidate they would vote for made up 35 percent. Those who would vote for Kasich made up 19 percent. Jeb Bush landed third place with 9 percent of students who would support him. On Feb. 20, in the final days of the survey being collected, Jeb Bush announced he was suspending his campaign. Bernie Sanders garnered 8 percent of students who would vote for him if they had to vote for the other party. Seven percent would vote for Clinton, 7 percent for Trump and 4 percent for Jill Stein. The survey was released via Western Front social media and collected responses over a two-week time period.
