Sketch of suspect in recent indecent exposure case
A detective has been assigned to investigate two incidents of indecent exposure that occurred near Western’s campus on Wednesday, Jan. 6, according to a city of Bellingham article by Lt. Bob Vander Yacht of the Bellingham Police Department. A sketch was released Friday, Jan. 8, of the suspected male along with a description given by the second victim. The man looked to be in his twenties, dressed in a black T-shirt, between 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall, clean shaven, with a thin-to-medium build and potentially brown hair, according to the City of Bellingham report.

“By putting this sketch out we are hoping we can get more eyes on this,” Lt. Bob Vander Yacht said. “If someone in the community can help identify this person, it is important for us to find this person and hold them accountable.”
In the first report, a man approached a vehicle and exposed himself to a college-aged woman from the passenger side window at 8:17 p.m. near the 700 block of High Street. The second disturbance took place at 10:16 p.m. near the 1000 block of Billy Frank Jr. Street after a woman witnessed a man masturbating while looking directly at her, according to a community advisory given Jan. 8. The case was the eighth indecent exposure report to occur near Western’s campus since October 2015.  READ MORE: Rash of indecent exposure plagues north campus neighborhood Students should check their homes to ensure that no individual is able to see inside during the night and report any suspected peeping or indecent exposure as soon as possible, Vander Yacht said. “I want to make sure we are providing as much information to the campus as we can. We want to be as supportive as we can for the campus community,” Vander Yacht said. Any individual who believes they might be able to identify the described suspect or provide any kind of information is asked to call Detective Sue Howell at 360-778-8682.     Updated from a previous version on Jan. 9 at 2:35 p.m.
