Get to Know Western: Josh Osborne

image2With each entry of Get to Know Western, The Western Front will interview students and staff for a new insight on campus life. This week, we interviewed sophomore and computer science major, Josh Osborne. Q: Why did you pick Western? A: I really like the class sizes here, that was a huge attraction for me. I got used to having 30 kids or less in a classroom at Everett, and did well in that environment. Also, I heard they were going to start investing more in the computer science department, and I thought that was really cool. Q: What is your favorite thing about Western? A: The weather’s not too bad, and the buildings are really nice. I’ve had the opportunity to have class in almost every building now and it's been a good experience for me. Q: What has been your favorite class so far? A: It would have to be a computer science class. I don’t know specifically which one because it seems like they just keep getting better. If you’re into something and you like it, it’s fun to take the class; I’ve had that experience in this major. Q: What is your best piece of advice for students? A: Take your time. I tried to graduate in four years so I’ve had to put a lot of stress on myself. Taking three classes is good, four is probably too much and not worth the stress. Q: How did you get interested in your major? A: I started at community college in Everett, and I started taking a bunch of math classes; I really enjoyed it but I wasn’t sure what direction to take. One of my professors recommended computer science and so I took the computer science classes at Everett, but there weren’t that many offered and Western was my first choice, and that’s how that really happened. Q: What do you like to do around Bellingham? A: I’m double majoring so I don’t really have a lot of free time. My other major is applied math  so the stuff I do is either on campus studying or at home sleeping. I like to bike a lot around the area. Q: What’s your favorite place to eat in Bellingham? A: I like the On Rice chain. The Thai food around where I live is just okay.
