Man and the Mascara: Prevent splitting lips

With the winter months in full swing, many Western students may be already feeling the painful feeling of splitting lips. We all know the feeling of smiling at a friend, and suddenly feeling our lips tear open wider than the Grand Canyon. Well, my friends, I am going to tell you all about how to prevent that from happening, by exposing three strategies for keeping my lips healthy and hydrated this winter

  1. My first strategy for having moisturized lips is always keeping lip balm on hand. My personal favorite is EOS sweet mint flavor. I use EOS mostly because I just like the taste of the sweet mint flavor, but I’ve recently learned that it is packed with antioxidant-rich vitamin E, soothing shea butter and jojoba oil. These agents work together to keep your lips incredibly smooth and hydrated.Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
  2. My second strategy for keeping my lips from separating like the like East and West Berlin is that I use coconut oil on my lips every evening before I go to bed. This is because coconut oil is so hydrating for skin. When I add it to my lips, it creates this almost immediate soothing and nourishing feeling. Coconut oil can be a bit messy and if I apply too much I will try and remove it, but if I apply the right amount I will let it just absorb into my lips. It’s also little tough to carry around which I why I always leave the jar at home.
  3. Man and the Mascara’s last strategy for healthy, hydrated lips is simply just drinking water. While a lot of dry skin comes with harsh weather conditions, most of it actually comes from not staying hydrated well enough. MATM always tries to drink anywhere between 64 and 80 ounces of water a day. While this may sound like a lot, it’s actually only about two Nalgene bottles full. I’ll always try and keep a bottle on hand at all times as well, whether I’m at work, at home or at my desk writing Man and the Mascara.
Hopefully my three simple tips help you keep your lips from tearing wide open, and that you can survive the winter without that awkward scabby, red line down the center of your bottom lip. I assure you that if you follow my steps you will not have a problem, and winter will not pull a Moses and part your lips like he did the red sea.
