Western Front reporter Colin Floyd gives his take on the Seahawks' season, following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
This has not been the season most Seahawks fans had hoped for. Analysts and fans alike have been comparing this slow start to last season when the Hawks started 3-3 and then proceeded to lose only one more game the entire season. As much as it pains me to say it, the situation this season is much worse.
In a game that looked to be all but over at halftime, the Seahawks played their usual brand of football and found a way to overcome a 19-point deficit. After blowing a fourth quarter lead for the fifth time this season, the Seahawks lost to the Cardinals 39-32.
Not only was the Cardinals’ top-ranked offense on point this week, but the third-ranked defense also did its homework. Arizona forced Russell Wilson to complete only 43 percent of his passes while picking him off once. The Cardinals allowed him to throw only one touchdown and held the rushing attack to 115 yards on the ground.
I can sit here and rattle off plenty of stats as to why the Seahawks lost its fifth game of the season but it’s really quite simple: the team just weren’t good enough on Sunday night. The offense was atrocious. The defense kept the Hawks in it, but couldn’t do enough to hold off Arizona’s high-octane offensive unit. On top of all that, there were way too many penalties — 14 for 131 yards.
The Seahawks are on the outside looking in at 4-5 with Washington, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, Philadelphia and Chicago all holding the same record. The Seahawks need to win the rest of their games and hope that Green Bay and Atlanta continue to stumble, but with teams like Arizona still on the schedule, the team has got an uphill battle.
