Night in with Netflix: Happy

If you are looking for a film that will make you smile AND think, look no further. “Happy” is a documentary that takes viewers on a journey from the swamps of Louisiana to the slums of Kolkata in search of what really makes people happy.   [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDkv6Mi8JrI[/embed]   What I expected was a lighthearted film with people describing their personal definition of “happy.” What I got instead was an in-depth look at the brain chemistry that makes up feelings of contentment and joy. The film used interviews and extremely profound stories of hardship to illustrate that happiness does not depend on circumstance, but rather the every day choices we make.   Like any documentary, it had many slow parts. Some people shared stories that were shocking and deep, but others were more common and difficult to stay engaged in. In addition, some of the scientific research is fascinating, but much of it would go above the head of the average viewer.   The movie makes you think about true happiness and how much you have control of your feelings. It gives new perspective and inspires you to make changes in your life and your thinking.   Rating: 7.8/10
