Get to Know Western: Paige Hurst

IMG_0228With each entry of Get to Know Western, The Western Front will interview students and staff for a new insight on campus life. This week, we interviewed sophomore, Paige Hurst. Q: Why did you pick Western? A: I really enjoy that it’s in the trees. It’s just surrounded by nature. It’s not an extremely competitive place like other colleges — it’s just more comfortable-feeling. Q: What is your favorite thing about Western? A: I feel like everyone is pretty down to earth and cares about people. Opposed to being in a tank full of sharks, you’re in a tank full of hamsters. Q: Why do you want to become an environmental studies teacher? A: I care about our Earth and I really want to preserve what we have because I know there’s a lot of people coming into the world with less resources. I just want to bring awareness and I’m hoping it’s going to help if we start them at a young age.   Q: What has been your favorite class so far? A: Probably geology. I really enjoyed looking at rocks and learning about the chemical makeup of everything. Q: What do you like to do around Bellingham? A: I’ve mostly explored around the campus and fun, little quaint places downtown. Q: What’s your favorite spot on campus? A: I would have to say the tree fort in the Arboretum. It took me a while to find, but it’s a good spot. Q: What is your best piece of advice for students? A: Love your Mother Earth.
