Office of Sustainability introduces first-annual "The Fair" to Western

The Office of Sustainability brought carnival style games together with environmental responsibility this year at an event called "The Fair" in the Viking Union Multi-purpose room, Wednesday, Oct. 14. Soup and bread provided by local businesses in Bellingham, carnival games and a sustainable scavenger hunt brought Western students together with representatives of local sustainable groups both on and off campus. The event was made possible by a Sustainable Action Fund grant.  The goal was to engage students who are usually not get engaged with sustainability, to start thinking about it, office assistant of The Office of Sustainability Victoria Monreal and organizer of the fair, said. “We define sustainability as the intersectionality of issues involving the environment, social issues and economics. Not everyone knows this definition--it's not just the environment,” she said.
