It has been corrected to say the project was fully funded by donors. Western Libraries held a grand opening celebration of the new Research-Writing Studio in Haggard Hall on Friday, Oct. 2. The event was attended by donors of the new studio, students and Western Libraries employees. The new space contains an open working area populated by tables and booths. New furniture, new collaborative spaces and technology are among the features located on the Haggard side of Western Libraries and the Learning Commons to support students as well as offer a new service said Kelly Helms, assistant director of the Research-Writing Studio. The purpose of the new space was to combine the services for research consultation and writing consultation into one shared program so students can get support for both research and writing at the same time, Helms said. The new space is fully funded donors, according to Mark Greenberg, Dean of Libraries, in his remarks at the ribbon cutting. Roberta Kjesrud, the director of the Writing Center on campus, and Gabe Gossett, research consultation head, and student coordinators Jose Carrillo and Bethany Munson welcomed students who came to check out the new look, “I don’t think there’s any other place like it on campus,” Helms said. Cory Briar, a writing assistant and student coordinator for the new Research-Writing Studio, said that he really enjoys the new space because it is gives more of the feel of being a studio rather than a tutoring center. “It’s a nice open space, it’s inviting,” Briar said. “It’s not just a tutoring center.
