Western Washington University political science professor Todd Donovan won more than 61 percent of the vote in the primary election for Whatcom County Council on Tuesday, August 4. Donovan is running for the Council Distinct 1 seat and will advance to the general election on Tuesday, November 8. He will face Bruce Ayers, who received just under 17 percent of the vote in the primary election. Candidates Theresa Sygitowicz and Emily Weaver each received about 10 percent of the vote in the primary, and will not advance to the general election. The Council District 1 seat will be vacated by Pete Kremen, who is not running for re-election. Donovan currently serves on the Whatcom County Charter Review Commission, a group of 15 people elected to review the county charter every 10 years. He was elected to this position last November. In May, The Western Front sat down with Donovan for a Q&A about his candidacy.
