Q: Why did you pick Western?

A: I picked Western because I actually grew up here and I just really like the environment. It’s a good place to be.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Western?

A: My favorite thing about Western is just how open it is. Every other place I looked at just seemed so crowded. It’s smallish and really close to downtown.

Q: What do you like to do in Bellingham?

A: I’m kind of a shut in. I don’t know. Go to [Casa Que Pasa] with my friends. I go to a lot of house shows. The house show scene is amazing here.

Q: Can you elaborate on the house parties?

A: A lot of friends of mine, locally, are in a bunch of bands. So they all get together and play in these house shows for everyone. I know a big venue is the Loud House. I know the Bellingham Alternative Library does a lot of live music. There’s other great places. We had a show at my house, there were over a hundred people there. It was crazy.

Q: What kind of music is played?

A: There’s a lot of different types of music that gets played. The ones I go to are emo rock, because my friends are in emo rock bands. I went to the Loud House one night and there was a bluegrass band and it was pretty funny. Everyone was doing square dances. It was a lot of fun.

Q: What is your best advice for students?

A: Students, do your homework. College may seem a lot more laid back than you’re used to, but you got to keep yourself in check rather than screwing off all the time.  Don’t do drugs. Don’t do alcohol. OK, do it if you want, but be safe.
