Bryan Sevener, freshman

Q: Why did you pick Western?

A: I’m in state, so I picked Western because it has cheaper tuition. The campus is nice and open. It is useful for longboarding with the hills and everything. It is close to home. Originally, I was a little worried because I was trying to go for neuroscience and they didn’t have that degree at the time, but they added it in right before I was thinking about coming here. That was really lucky.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Western?

A: The spring time is really nice up here. Especially, after the winter and it’s all cold, seeing everybody outside and happy and in the sun is really nice.

Q: What has been your favorite class so far?

A: Probably the psychology classes. I didn’t think I was going to like big lecture halls, but when I took Psychology 101, the teacher was really nice and funny. So that made it really exciting.

Q: What do you like to do in Bellingham?

I really like to go look at the nature, go on a few hikes around some water and rocks. I also like to longboard.

Q: Can you elaborate on longboarding?

A: It’s like skateboarding, but a little smoother, and you can’t do as many tricks. It’s like surfing on land.

Q: How fast do you think you have gone?

A: Ten to 15 miles per hour. I wish I had a speedometer on me. I see some guys go flying down the hill.

Q: What is your best piece of advice for students?

A: Really get into the habit of self-discipline.
