The Western women’s volleyball team announced a new addition to the team earlier this week, Jenna Widman.

Widman is currently a middle blocker at Community Colleges of Spokane and will start playing for the Vikings next fall. She played at Lakeside High School in Nine Miles, Washington, where she also played basketball and did track.

Widman talked to The Western Front recently and answered some questions about why she chose Western and other activities she enjoys.

Q: How excited are you for next season?

A: Ten out of 10. I am so excited to get started. I am ready for a new adventure and am excited to play for the Vikings.

Q: What do you plan on majoring in?

A: Communications, but I don’t know what I want to do after school. I’ll learn more as I go along and hopefully figure something out.

Q: Are there any attractions in Bellingham you want to check out once you get here?

A: I love the Fairhaven marina and can definitely see myself walking down there all the time. Just in general, I heard Bellingham is beautiful from everyone and from what I’ve seen, so I’m excited to check it out.

Q: I heard you were an accomplished yodeler, how did you get into that?

A: (Laughs) I didn’t have too many friends in middle school so I taught myself to keep myself entertained.

Q: What is your favorite movie?

A: That is tough but I would have to say "A Million Ways to Die in the West."

Q: What is your least favorite food?

A: Sushi, the texture is disgusting.

Q: Why did you choose Western?

A: So many reasons. The school itself is beautiful, the coaches and players seem so nice and my brother also goes here. Overall, I am just ecstatic to start there.
