Western Washington University professor Scott Linneman promoted himself in a university-wide forum on Wednesday, April 8, in the Science, Math and Technology Education Building in hopes of landing the Western Washington University honors board director position. “We have a really fabulous honors program here that deserves a director who is very excited, engaged and dedicated, and I think I can be those things,” Linneman said. The Honors Department Director is responsible for recruiting, admitting, advising, recruiting faculty, working with faculty and external advisory groups, and teaching itself. Linneman also said that he hopes to incorporate fundraising into the program if elected. Linneman expressed that being a people person is a must for this position. “If you’re a people person, that’s about at most people you can get”. Improving the program not only for current students and faculty, but future students as well is a goal Linneman is striving towards. Linneman believes he is at the stage in his career as a professor that has allowed him to gain the proper experience that will make him exceptionally qualified for this position. “I’ve been known for my dedication to teaching that results in learning,” Linneman said. “To me, teaching that results in learning is good teaching”. “I’m dedicated to giving it my all. I think about every 10 to 15 years its good to shake things up and get something that’s going to light a fire underneath you, and I think this is something that would,” Linneman said.
