The department of Administrative Computing Services (ADMCS) at Western hired Janice Kijak to be its new director. Kijak replaces former director Bob Schneider who retired in December 2014.

Kijak made her start as the ADMCS director Monday, March 30. Kijak said she is ready to work with the different people and departments on Western’s campus.

ADMCS provides support to the Western community’s computing needs by providing help in the areas of information technology, Kijak said. Students don’t typically see department members in person.

“I work with the back-end processes and the pieces that run the college in the background,” Kijak said.

While Academic Technology and User Services (ATUS) works with the faculty and students directly, ADMCS run the student and business systems, Kijak said.

She said ADCMS works with human resources, payroll, student registration and admittance.

“You need to register students, you need to admit students and you need to pay people,” Kijak said.

Kijak said the job requires her to primarily use the software system, Banner.

According to the company website, Banner is an administrative software program developed for use by universities and colleges. It logs and maintains data that includes both personnel and financial data for students and alumni.

Kijak is familiar with the software, having used it previously at her job at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, she said. Kijak served as the director of enterprise systems at the school for 20 years.

Although not located directly on campus, ADMCS still works closely with campus-related issues. The department can be found behind Sehome Village on 32nd street.
